Re: Stupidly high oil pressure!

Hi,just been back on after a while, I didn't sort the problem , I removed the engine! on opening it up it had run its bearings and looked like it had been trying to run on clay instead of oil I didn't look further but presumed that it had jammed itself up somewhere. Fitted a Turbo 2.5 instead and ha...

Re: newboy

Only dimension I could see missing was the PCD of the 6 bolts to the axle.
a quick scale check makes them 4 inches PCD and 10mm dia which fits a 3/8 bolt, which all sounds plausible for US design of the 40s!

Re: Handbrake ceased!!!!

The obvious and easy way would be to order a new cable! even from India its not going to take as long or cause as much hastle as converting something else! If it was mine and off the vehicle I'd give it some wiggling and leave it over night in a tray of diesel, and then give the grease nipple afew p...

Re: wheel bearings

for speed I got my bearings from ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/171738094168 The oil seals where nice and clean and re-useable as they were just sitting on the stub axle doing nothing.... and whoever did the NSF on mine wants shooting as all the lock tabs washer and nuts where on in the wrong order ...

Re: Olies new engine is in ( and running!)

I've done 700 miles this year according to the MOT man! and I got a fresh pass as well, only a little welding around drivers seat box, a set of front wheel bearings and the usual collection of non functioning ( Missing) electrical items...... I even collected some sand on the trailer with it, looks ...

Re: REPLACING BELTS

Urm, advice on ancillary belts, firstly check that whats fitted actually needs replaced! if it isn't slipping and shedding bits of fibre and rubber it might be fine, a few small perish cracks in the base of the inside grooves isn't the end of the world anyway! Second, check the ones ftted are correc...

Re: Will a 2001 ldv Ford 2.5td fit the onto the gear box

Anything is poossible! but realistically you'll end up making adapter plates and so on, so the cost of the engine is likely to be the least important bit! LDV Dis usually have a less reliable ( and expensive) immobilised fuel pump than the earlier indestructeable tranny ones, which incidentally I th...

Re: Olies new engine is in ( and running!)

Occurred to me that I haven't updated this for a while, Jeeps been MOt'd for a couple of months and all appears to work ok so have commuted about a bit in it over the last bits of sunshine. Turbo is definitely the way to go, makes a great noise on the way up the gears as I'm running an open p...

Re: Starter Motors

Check voltage drop across cables whilst cranking, there are lots of ways to do it, my prefrence is get a good meter with crocodile clips on each end of cables, set meter to 12v or more, attach one direct to battery positive (Not to the wire connected to it...) and other to motor iteself (not its sol...

Re: Steering box

Just quickie, on the grease front we've used semi fluid grease with some success on leaky agricultural machinery in past, and for car steering boxes penrite oils do steering box semi fluid grease, I think I got mine from mini spares but stick penrite semi fluid grease in google and I'm sure you will...

Re: 4 X 4 and low ratio

Took the Disco off road yesterady and there was a guy there with a dog of a classic rangie which was running FWD only with a bust back diff and he never got stuck once! lots of momentum and wheel spin = lots of fun  I think the logic for the interlock is that if you need the sort of torque tha...

Jeeps been operational for a while but still not used it in anger yet :) although It did help push the transit and trailer off some grass I shouldn't have parked on :banghead: ... Re: Diesel Engine Oil into a Petrol Engine?

As with all these things the devil is in the detail  If you have a bucket of wilkos multi use 15w 40 and you need to top up a well maintained little moderm motor it will do no harm, and lots of mixed fleet use one 10 w40 for everything with no ill effects. However some modern disel oils have v...
