modified Brave

Post by armourerdoug » Thu Jul 17, 2008 6:50 pm

Hi my name is Doug, i live in hertfordshire near to watford. I work in films as a senior special effects technician and armourer.
I bought an indian brave in the begining of January after selling an old italian sports car i had restored ,hoping to modify it to look more like a WW2 Willys jeep, but have been in Marrakesh, Morocco since march, so got someone to do the work for me, should be completed in Mid August when i finish on this film. so glad there is a forum for these jeeps,,,,got a few questions,,,,,,, :clapping:

nice looking jeep Doug! have you changed the engine or was there enough space above the lump after the bonnet chop, i presume you've gone for the small rad to fit the MB front grill.
The journey isn't about departing in a well preserved body - but rather to skid in sideways - totally worn out - shouting HOLY SHIT WHAT A RIDE!!!!

Hi Chieftan,
yep standard diesel lump and yep theres enough room to chop the bulkhaed down to fit the hood and front grill from a willys straight on, the Rad is standard i believe. when i get home from North africa in mid August will take more detailed pics of the mods for you. i just managed to get 5 Hochkiss wheels for it (non combat rims) for £100 now just have to get 600x16" bargrip tyres to finish the look.

well, here is a news update on my Brave!
am sitting on the terrace of a villa in spain overlooking my pool and the 1/2 mile to the beach at7am
as for the differences in the early willys and the mahindra late body styles and parts, a few modifications are now being finished, such as a new centre for the willys steering wheel and the canvas weather kit. latest is it will be finished in 2 weeks :beg: . as soon as i recieve more pics form the guy i got to do it for me while i was away, i will post them up on the Gallery.

a couple of you asked what i do, easiest thing is to go to www.imdb.com and type Doug McCarthy in to the search, my typing isnt fast! :banghead:

Hi Doug,

You have been a busy boy! (imdb) Could we possibly be seeing your much modified Brave as a replacement for the flying Anglia

in a future Harry Potter film? :clapping:

Cheers

Neil

ha ha, i wish! theres about 6 various flying anglias sitting on a scaffold frame about 15ft up. am going to try and get on the next potter at the end of the year as it is nearly 2 years work only 10 mins from my house (2 films back to back) so could drive the jeep in to work every day!! :good:
am thinking of starting a business outside of the film industry as it takes me away from home and my family too much, see what happens i guess,,,,,,,,,

Would love to see some under bonnet pictures of the brave (Jeep porn  ), I am curious as too how much room is around the brake
master cylinder with the cowl now lowered. Also what is the extra wee gear lever at the back of the transmission tunnel?

Overdrive ?

Cheers
