owner of 1 and 1/2 Mahindras

Post by TopCat » Wed Oct 28, 2015 5:18 pm

Hi I have owned Jerbil sometimes called UAN since 1999 being a 1995 CJ340 it has never been on road for 10 years and is now suffering from terminal body rust having driven it around our fields in Highlands of Scotland
great for lamping rabbits at night etc

I have now recently bought a CJ540 to replace it and am currently fettling same- at least we enjoy the extra leg room in the longer wheel base versoin- vital when even my 15 year old son is 6 feet 2 inches! New CJ540 is called Hal the black prince

Mission: Collect one hopefully more or less fixed up classic Jeep- called Hal the Black prince- take him to Clune and swap over with Jerbil red Jeep- as Andy who had sold me Hal wanted Jerbil for parts. This is for children to drive shooting rabbits etc and driver training in fields
What could go wrong?
Well lots
1 I fell off trailer sorting out tyre pressures and cracked my ribs
2 Snow!!!- LOTS of it
spent 3 days at Clune switching over parts and loading trailer with Jerbil- then came the snow! meant even with Audi AWD Biturbo Allroad thingie and snowsocks I wouldn't be able to manage the long and steep road in to Clune in the snow.
Why is it that when v cold things are so difficult to work on?
I managed to crash through the snowdrifts in CJ but had to wait the snowplough/gritter to arrive to clear the road for the rig to get through
meant I missed the ferry but as more terrible weather is due next 24 hours decided to go for it
made it after stormy ferry crossing this eve!

At New Year we had an amazing storm- river rose by 12 feet and a Burn completely washed the road away- bypassing the bridge

I have no idea what "snow socks" are

pics look pretty impressive - but shouldnt the mindie be in front of the trailer, with the Audi being towed?

Good suggestion but the mindy had no radiator! the snowsocks are brilliant they are a new version of snowchains ab=nd fit over the tyres- you can see thme in the picture

they work like velcro..............!

"the snowsocks are brilliant they are a new version of snowchains"

aaaaaaaaaaand - I know next to nothing about snow or snowchains

probably due to a chronic shortage of snow anywhere near here...

but then - down here, "chill factor" is regarded as something to do with the condensation on your beer glass

...

However, I can tell you lots about nice sunny beaches with pristine white sand, so hot it burns your toes on the way to the surf :taunt: :taunt:

Aha!
I was "made " in Australia - Molong NSW

thought you might enjoy Jerbil's last run out last August alongside CJ - my CJ7 360 V8

the scottish "bush" looks sort of like australia?

Well......kinda-sorta!

nice little backyard you have there, a bit like a farm I was managing in our sou'west for a while.

Perfect off-roading country with lots of places to explore, lots of foxes / rabbits / ducks / quail and cats to play with

I would love to have a wander around Scotland - our family hails from there originally.
