Ieuan's new Marksman!

Post by Ieuan » Mon May 27, 2013 11:44 am

Well with the old jeep about to go in a few hours, I think it's time to reveal my new one, I picked up my new MARKSMAN on Saturday after a horrendous 12hr return journey up to Manchester!

I saw this advertised on eBay a few weeks ago and seeing that it has had a full re-build a few years ago, something grabbed me and I made him and offer he couldn’t refuse! Not had any time to drive it or inspect it yet as it’s stored at my mates house, will hopefully have a chance once mine has gone and I have room to bring her back.

I’m sure some of you will recognise this from eBay, it has a 2.5l Peugeot engine, MOT till Dec and really excellent bodywork and chassis.

Below are a few pics, some from the auction – will take some over the next few days and post them.
No plans on what to do yet, but I do like the retro looking ones

Anybody out there know anything about this one? Any comments and tips welcome!

Thanks guys, noticed a few oil drops onto the trailer, but other than that it looks the business!

I'm not sure I like the hard top, so I think I'm going to convert to soft-top......but no rush, got plenty of time :-)

Just waved mine off, not to sad as I have a Corker in the new one instead

Quick update....Brought the jeep back but it wouldn't fit in the garage  Spot lights on the roof had to come off (They didn't work anyway!) and it just scraped in.

I've got a few oil leaks, so will have a close look while on the ramps over the weekend....Seems to have a home-made exhaust system, so I think that will have to be added to the list. It also pulls to the left and sometimes the right when breaking - I have original drum breaks (added to the list)

I've just taken both doors off, and both hard tops (inc small one above drivers cab) as well as the carpets and although I didn't think it was possible, she now looks even better

The screen is fixed, well seems to be - is this correct for a Marksman?

I don't want the Hard-top or doors, so will be posting these on sales and wants later today.....

Am I mad to get rid of these, probably yes, but I want to get that military look again.....below there's a pic of a 1954 M38A1 (on eBay for £6250) that's the look I'm after, although probably just green.

I'm going to have to take the roll bar off as well as chop the small roof section as well, so enough to do but want to take my time, especially when it comes to the paint work/body

.....thoughts & comments welcome......It's all very exciting!!!!!!

The screen is fixed on the Marksman with fake hinges (not sure why- I guess it was cheaper to produce that way.)

The journey isn't about departing in a well preserved body - but rather to skid in sideways - totally worn out - shouting HOLY SHIT WHAT A RIDE!!!!

Is it the same as on the Brave/Chief?

If it is, I think I might have my old one knocking about somewhere.
