voltage regulator

hi all can any body help :banghead: I been told the big grey box under dash on left hand side off steering wheel is a voltage regulator . my jeep is charging the battery but the amp meter dose not go to the + side .. its _ or the highest is in the middle of clock . its been suggested it may have been fitter with a dynamo . :banghead: but the alternator looks original Lucas tvs cheers

A photo of the box will confirm whether its an aftermarket add on or an original part of the loom.
If its an original alternator then the regulator is built in.
A point to note, the ammeter is a notorious weak spot in the wiring and has resulted in a fire or two. The connections work loose and the cables short ....
Myself and a lot of other folks have removed the gauge altogether and rewired. To keep an eye on charging we have fitted voltmeters instead.

That's the heater plug timer

With Alan the amp meter don't move much try putting a voltage tester on there first
